Proxy server settings
Could you explain what Proxy Server settings I should use?
Kind of! The settings are very much dependent upon your personal circumstances. There are three options in the Preferences window for the proxy server settings.
- No proxy server: This means that TubeMaestro will try and connect directly to the servers in the internet to retrieve the required status information. This is the setting typically used by a home computer or a computer connected to a public network somehere.
- Always use a proxy server: This means that TubeMaestro will try and connect to the internet through an intermediary server (or "Proxy" server). This option is most often needed when the computer running TubeMaestro is on a corporate or company network and there is a firewall or proxy server through which all internet traffic has to pass to get "out of the building".
- Try no proxy then try the shown proxy: This means that TubeMaestro will try and connect directly to the internet servers first and then, if this fails, it will try connecting via the proxy server who's settings are shown on the page. This is a really useful option is the PC on which TubeMaestro resides connects to different neworks which may or may not have a proxy server. This is a good option for laptop computer users, as this will try connecting directly while the laptop is using some kind of mobile internet connection and then when the laptop is connected to the company network the proxy server settings are used. This is done without the user having to change the preferences when entering and leaving the company network, and is therefore the most flexible option for mobile users.
